Old School Shout Out

1987 Year of the "Squad"

You can be forgiven if you didn't realize that a suit and tie was a standard paintball team uniform.

Those nattily dressed gentlemen pictured above are the UK's first Championship team, Bart's Stud Squad, pictured getting ready to fly to the states for the 1988 Lively Masters tournament in Nashville, TN.

A year later the team would revisit the North American continent, when they flew in for the 1989 PMI North American Championship.  It was also the first appearance of any foreign team  competing in a US - based tournament.

The following year the Studs would win the NSG UK Championship.

International play has since grown into a huge thing, and you're looking at a pic from almost the very beginning.  In some respects, the internet has proven useful.

Lesley Hickson posted the image to the Old Age Paintballer's Facebook page.

There's also a book, available for download as a PDF, The Complete Tournament History of British Paintball Teams available on the Facebook page of the same name.  Quite the tome at some 530+ pages.  Lots of photos too!
