WCPL Panhandle Paintball Classic

Part 1 - The Results

By now, you will have already learned that The Juggernauts took first at this past weekend's WCPL Panhandle Paintball Classic.

They made it into the final four just one point ahead of Lockout and managed to prevail through the semis in a body count game on the Mounds fields against Revolution.

Team Crowley and LA Xtreme ended up taking third and fourth, respectively.

The completion of Preliminary round play found Team Crowley in a commanding position; Revolution, LAX Machine and the Juggernauts following in that order.  Any one of those teams had demonstrated during the prelims that they were capable of moving into the number one slot.

The finals rounds were conducted as a 1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd affair.  When the dust settled, Team Crowley had fallen to the Juggernauts and Revolution won their game against LAX Machine.

A quick aside to mention that yes, there were some technical scoring difficulties during the prelims that led to it being necessary to conduct a one-off tie-breaker between Lockout and the Juggernauts, which game was played on the Mounds field.  I would like to thank both of the captains of Lockout and the Juggernauts for their patience as things were worked out and their exemplary sportsmanship and conduct in helping us work things out.  There are going to be issues that arise at any event (every event) and it makes things far easier for all concerned when teams conduct themselves in an understanding and professional manner.

One unique element of the finals was the overall top finisher got to pick which of the two fields (Mounds or Woods) would be used for their game.  Pretty much everyone agreed that they would have opted for the Mounds field, which is not surprising as it offered teams who knew how to play on such terrain an advantage.

I'd also like to mention one little bit of detail regarding the fields that was brought up at the Captain's meeting with field owners Dan Colby ands Steve Preskill:  they announced that the Mounds field would be used during morning sessions, when the day was still relatively cool, and would then move to the Woods field, where there was excellent shade, for the afternoon games.

This is the kind of detail you only find when things are being operated by well-experienced field owners.  I've run a field in Florida and the daytime sun can be brutal - as was evidenced by numerous players who had not yet learned that you don't leave pods filled with paint lying around between games.  (When playing in Florida, only take the paint you need for that game and don't leave your loader lying in the sun.)

The remainder of the standings can be found below, following this heartfelt THANK YOU! to each and every one of you - players, staff, owners - Friends - who attended and made such a wonderful event happen!
